Building a Bankroll


When you are playing online poker sites, it is possible to increase the size of your bankroll, and create a substantial amount starting from fairly little. How can a poker player with at least average skills build a bankroll? Let’s study some of the ways in which this can be done.

Building a bankroll involves time, as well as perseverance and patience.
Patience is extremely important, particularly when you are starting with a small amount. Carefully choose games where your performance is likely to be good, play to your strengths. Look for freerolls that have some criterion for participation, you have better chances of winning and building up your bankroll when there are less players to beat.
Things to avoid while trying to build a bankroll include never using money that you can’t afford to lose, keeping within pre-determined limits, learning how to recognize and manage risks, and using effective strategy. For instance, a play or quit strategy is a good one to follow when you are building a bankroll. Here, you should be able to quit when you encounter a bad run of luck – never increase your bets at such times, hoping you will be able to recover the money you have lost. Also, set aside your winnings when you are doing well, so that even if you lose later, you will still have something positive to count on and help build up your bankroll. Progressive betting is another way to add to your bankroll – increase your winning bets by, say, 50% every time you win and stick to the table minimum if you are losing.
