Free seats for Monte Carlo

January 9, 2008

It may be the beginning of the year, but PokerStars are already looking forward to the beginning of April when Europe’s richest poker tournament will be taking place in Monte Carlo.

Sixteen places with a value of over $300,000 are being put up for grabs to the European Poker Tour Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

PokerStars will be running Supersatellite tournaments from January 19th with a buy-in of $1000 + $50. However, if your bank roll won’t quite stretch quite that far you’ll be pleased to hear that Qualifiers to the Supersatellite have already begun from as little as $5.50

Last year, PokerStars player Gavin Griffin went down the qualifier route, ended up going to Monte Carlo and came home a millionaire after a thrilling heads-up battle with Marc Karam.

He has recorded a short video on the PokerStars website offering this years players hints and tips on how to follow in his footsteps.

No rest for PKR

January 6, 2008

PKR have kicked the New Year off by going on a massive marketing drive. If you’re in the UK, then you’ve probably seen their new TV ad which began broadcasting over the Christmas period.

Not content with that though, PKR are also offering their players the opportunity to take on the best of Britain by offering free seats to one of the country’s coolest poker tournaments: The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour. Buy-ins for the tournament have been added to the PKR shop and can be purchased with PKR Loyalty Points.

PokerStars breaks through the 150,000 barrier

January 3, 2008

The end of the year brought a great new achievement for PokerStars who saw over 150,000 players logging into their poker room for the first time.

The milestone occurred on Sunday 30th December during their regular Sunday Million tournament with players logging in from both Europe (where it was peak time) and the US. The Sunday Million by itself generated 1,800 players while the Sunday Hundred Grand hit its limit of 20,000 players.

This new record for PokerStars proves that the site is still one of the fastest growing online poker rooms. In May 2006, it dealt its five billionth hand in just a little over five years since its launch and just three months earlier Poker Stars was able to announce that it had seen 100,000 people signing in to play poker.
